The usefulness of the website to our alumni community very much depends on alumni uploading information about themselves that may be of interest to other alumni for professional networking and fostering cross-disciplinary interaction. We very much hope therefore that you will provide information about, for example, your career history and areas of professional expertise and that you will choose to keep your profile updated.
The Commission is committed to ensuring that any information you provide is held securely and that your privacy is protected. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Moreover, you have complete control over whether any information you provide is visible to other alumni or only to staff and officers of the Commission itself. Where you make it visible to other alumni, you can be assured that they are bound by these terms and conditions.
Other than details of your 1851 Award, the Commission will not publish, sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties. Information may be held in the Commission's archive and made publicly available 50 years after your death.
The Commission may make changes to these terms and conditions from time to time by updating this page. You will be notified by e-mail of any changes in advance. These terms and conditions are effective from 31 October 2011.
You must ensure that the password you use to access the alumni only area of the website is kept confidential.

The Commission wishes to encourage any means by which its current award holders can access the pool of professional expertise represented by its alumni and to facilitate professional networking within the 1851 alumni community. By uploading information on your contact details, career history and areas of interest as well as links to other websites on which information about you and your work appears, you consent to the Commission using the information for these purposes. To the extent you make any such information visible to other award holders and alumni, you consent to them contacting you for these purposes.
You can also use the website to let us know whether you would like to receive the Commission's newsletters, invitations to our events and so forth. You can also contribute to online discussion groups.
In uploading material to our website, whether as text, pictures or in any other format, you grant to us a worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, translate and distribute that material in any existing or future media. You also grant to us the right to sub-license these rights, and the right to bring an action for infringement of these rights.
Material you upload must not be illegal or unlawful, must not infringe any third party's legal rights, and must not be capable of giving rise to legal action whether against you or us or a third party (in each case under any applicable law).
